I begin jury duty tomorrow. Remarkably, my first time. What should I expect, Americans?

According to our former Texas sales managerβs take, expect to be in a room surrounded by others who couldnβt come up with a creative way to dodge it lol. No offense because I know you are smart and very creative. In a jury trial, a βjury of your peersβ is usually made up of the last left curve people you would ever want deciding your fate. Iβm sure I landed myself on some sort of list with the way I railed against the justice system and immigration policy in pre-selection, but they still expected me to go. I ended up having to rely on the fact that my wife is a volunteer first responder and claimed we only have one vehicle that I cannot take for half a day at a time, in order to be excused.
Oof. I didn't try; civic duty and whatnot.
Good to know. Thanks.
Yeah if good old John hadnβt filled me in on that bit of wisdom, and I wasnβt so black pilled on the way the Alberta courts treated pastors who were simply trying to hold services during Covid and imprisoning them for a couple years, I would have been a willing participant.
A lot of sitting and waiting π
DMV, baby.
It definitely feels like that lol. Iβve been twice. I got selected once and it turned out to be for a somewhat high profile murder case in my area. Ultimately (thankfully) I was sent home before the final jury was seated, because they were going to be sequestered for the duration of the trial. π
Being self-employed, the idea of something like that does not delight me.

yeah they don't even pay minimum wage but I'm sure your clients would understand and wait on you and not go with your competition in the meantime /s
Perverse incentives. ππ»
there's a reason the jury pool is filled with low education low income people, it sucks but it is what it is
Expect to be treated like a criminal, rather than rewarded for fulfilling your civic duty. No coffee. No snacks. Take a number in a crowded sterile room and wait. You will be fined for parking incorrectly. You will be served a warrant should you step out for a smoke and miss your name being called.
Hey but they still zap you at the end of the day more than youβd make on nostr π€£π€£
I'll have you know that the parking is free, and I'm to be paid $20 per day.
Sweet.
Thatβs top-nostr-zap territory right there

Wait, what? You cannot smoke while working? That's inhumane...
fuck the state
Jesus you're still bitching about having to have a real job?
Zionist scum you're going to get a lot less zaps after you exposed yourself yesterday.
Complaining that people don't give you enough money for sharing memes you find on twitter.
Make sure you get there early or the 'free' parking will be gone.
Tedium but take it seriously. The parties need you to give a shit. Donβt be bullied by strong personalities and fuckin stick to your guns.
I'm that strong personality. π«‘
Excellent. Judges are retarded but juries can correct for this if people take the task seriously. They donβt but you can make a difference. Apply the law. Resist splitting the baby.
tfw you read the replies and didn't try to get out of it.

this is the way
look up jury nullification
the only crimes are violence and theft all other laws are invalid
There is the absolute, and there is the relative. We live in between.
you should wear a clown suit π
Begin jury duty ?
Were you selected to serve on one, or just part of a jury pool ?
Just a pool, so far.
Well then, expect to be dismissed for one reason or another.
If you're put on a civil case, expect a lot of pettiness that nobody else cares about; and at the end, expect to be asking yourself "Jesus, don't these people have anything better to do than waste everyone's time?"
