the cashu people will probably win the nostr wallet wars but it will be a sad day for my non-custodial lightning node. I guess I will just stop zapping when that day comes, I don't want to use a custodial node or run cashu just to zap.

have you looked at people's LUD16s? almost everybody and their mother are on custodial zappers, even people that run LN nodes.
Cashu is strictly an improvement over CUSTODIAL lightning.
And since it uses lightning, you can just continue zapping without ever running a mint or having a sat under custody, the only difference for you will be that instead of paying a bolt11 of wallet of satoshi or strike you'll pay a bolt11 of one of hundreds/thousands of mints.
I am aware, i am just trying to think of how to integrate it without overcomplicating everything

I think the stat a year ago or so was like north of 90% were custodial, and I'm guessing it's only gotten worse as well as zap volume not keeping up with nostr growth when alby started to shutdown their custodial offering.
I'm a noob, is it bad that I zap using no KYC coinos?
coinos is great, we are switching to it in damus as our default wallet
Yep, they’ve constantly been adding new features, ecash, NWC, self custody.
We use it for our POS at the cafe and it’s easily the best option out there.

There is no nostr wallet war. There is Primal and there's the rest that either doesn't work, is a PITA to set up and use, or is centralized af.
We can complain all day about why nobody is running a node. We can wait another 10 years and it still won't happen.

The problem with cashu, is that unlike lightning, the cashus on your mint, mean nothing to me. And my cashus mean nothing to you. Unless you redeem them from me or I redeem yours from you.
At that point, we are back to zapping. 🤣🤣
I am pretty tech literate- self custody, run nodes, understand most of the high level stuff etc. There is no way I'm running non-custodial Lightning. The Primal wallet works fine and there has to be some trust abstraction at some point in this space.I just don't see why we would need to have a more complex setup to Zap a few hundred bucks in a year.
Ecash should be the default with the option to connect your own self-custodial wallet. I’ve run a node for 4 years and will continue to do so but you have to accept that most people won’t.
