Imagine this: You're on stage. A QR code appears on the screen behind you. Someone in the audience scans it and zaps you 100,000 sats. The screen explodes with an animation: their name, their avatar, spinning letters spelling "TOP ZAP." The audience sees it. More zaps come in.

Get my npub please.
Got it. Now what? π
Send me 100,000 SATS
PubPay uses kind1s for zaps, not kind 0s (yet!)

Make it 10K Sats and I'm in π
I'd do it for 1k sats π€²

What is this?
A Dutch auction! π
as more zaps come in i start shouting: FOOLISH! into the microphone
i throw my cape off my shoulders in a flourish as the QR code morphs into Big Brother's face and then fades
text appears on the screen
oh no
is this a powerpoint?
i say: never scan a public qr code. scammers can place malicious codes to redirect you to fake websites for phishing (stealing info) or to download malware
a few people in the audience start to groan
for they know what is coming and what they are in for
for 'tis i, sΓso
and every zapper failed the security test

It can be the norm today, thanks to nostr π€²
If you need an audio sample
Which actor should portray you in the documentary?
TimothΓ©e Chalamet but make him do his bob dylan voice π
Will do!

Haha π thatβs not super far off I would say

We already did π€²

Letβs Fucking Go! Awesome π
Sick, but slightly distracting? π€£
That's the audienceβs choice. They can stay fully immersed in the talk, or they can actively engage. Sending money is the ultimate form of attention: itβs voluntary, costly, and expressive. You can reward, signal appreciation, or even criticize. In real time.
Cheers and applause are distracting too
Exactly. Once you see it happen live, going back feels very quiet.
I honestly love the zap animation and sound on Nostur app. Iβm imagining Ross speaking during btc 2025 and a storm of lightning exploding behind him. β‘οΈπ€
Iβve actually never tried Nostur but that sounds wild
PubPay has some pretty cool zap animations (no sound for now).
Letβs just say we have some fun ideas in mind for @The Bitcoin Conference π€²β‘οΈ
Attention is cheap. Zaps arenβt.
Think of it as clapping, with consequences.
Kinda WIP-ing it (so far it's PoC to show zaps on Twitch but other integrations are possible).
Release soon π
It's already released π€² feel free to make a PR or two

Thatβs so cool! Is there a spec that a lightning wallet can implement this?
Yes π€² Check out the readmes that explain PubPay and PubPay Live. There's also a NIP in the works!

half the people walk out.
The good ones stay and you can still zap from home π
yes.
because what qualifies people as good is how quickly they agree with your marketing goals. π€‘

This would be awesome for a future festival. A bitcoin/ nostr festival where there's music, tents for local produce people can buy, workshops on tech and health /lifestyle. And you can only pay with sats. No coiners have to buy ecash with credit card or cash on the way in π #grownostr
Exactly, Lightning and Nostr interactions everywhere! Sounds like we should do that π€²
The ecosystem might be ready for that in a few years. As of now, even most bitcoiners have never even made a lightning payment
oh its possible now.
Iβve been attending Bitcoin conferences for the last 3 years with @Chain Duel , putting Lightning in front of people and letting them use it. Iβve personally seen thousands of first-time Lightning payments happen.
From that perspective, the world is more ready than we think
Last time I talked to bitcoiners at a conference I was explaining value for value and most of them hadn't made a lightning payment before. That was in 2024 though...
So where are we going to host this kind of event? #orangepilling2026 ?
I mean, I just did a lightning payment to you. Its easy, cheap and reliable.
People are afraid of paying in BTC because of fees and the whole "store of value" narrative (to which I still would respond: "spend and replace")...
But where is the ecosystem not ready for it?
I think many people would (or should?) join a lightning festival to connect, listen, teach and ofc buy goods and services.
Isnt a "Bitcoin conference" something else than a "Bitcoin festival"?
Has something like that even ever happened? (Like @Joe Martin πΆπ β‘ described, with not only music but also merchants, handcrafters, healthy food/drink areas, meditation guides, fitness guides, whatever, you name it?)
Maybe I'm wrong, but if I remember correctly even the biggest conferences like Nashville in 24 didn't even have any merchants accepting bitcoin. I remember people being pissed off about it. Would love to be proven wrong and would love to see it. But you would also need to find a place with high enough density of merchants and producers willing to accept sats and also enough musicians and technicians to put on a festival and do all the zapping V4V stuff properly. It will happen at some point though, no doubt
Thatβs because lightning payments donβt pump your bags π«
I can't compare to the conferences but I've read the same about not being able to buy with BTC. It just needs to be the unit of account for at least bitcoiners (imho).
On the other point, you're absolutely right, too.
I often forget that there are still people out there who do not think that Bitcoin is a good idea..
However, idk in these places like bitcoonbeach, bitcoinjungle or bitcoinisland and so on, it SHOULD be possible.
I mean in my childhood I bought "local market coupons" which I could only use on this one market for food or rides.. It should be possible to do the same again, but with Bitcoin lightning. One would only need a critical mass of merchants and musicians and so on (security and background organization doesnt need to be). That would mean around 30 - 40 bitcoiners should be easily enough to create an experience people (nocoiners) would like to participate in, I guess. They would buy sats on the entrance and getting orangepilled on the exit.
I mean, I am good at cutting speeches to other peoples beats (at least I think so), can cook various tasty and healthy stuff and am good at story telling...
So with you, we are two!
For a while all flagship bitcoin conferences have had lightning payments for food and other activations like @Chain Duel, official merch store, and bazaar vendors. In Vegas we even broke a Guinness world record for most transactions in a day, thanks to the relentless efforts of @UNCLE ROCKSTAR.
Weβre ready and weβre going to make all guests ready too ββ‘οΈ
Maybe I'm remembering wrong / getting mixed up, my bad!
All I'm saying is to do a full blown music festival with all the suppliers, staff people involved etc running on bitcoin only and inviting no coiners who will be given sats on entry is a few years off at least. The conferences are awesome but it only attracts people who are already bitcoiners. It would be great to see a cultural event (which would attract non bitcoiners) which would just happen to use bitcoin & nostr for everything. Then no-coiners could see it work in action. I think the zapping of an artist on stage is the most compelling thing for non bitcoiners as that can't be achieved with credit cards unlike regular merchant payments
Thats cool and I absolutely appreciate the effort and the achievement!
But like written in another statement, the conferences mainly attract bitcoiners and imho create seldomly newcoiners. For that, I think, the orange pilling event must not be labeled as a Bitcoin event, because mentioning BTC is a deterrent for nocoiners.
I agree!
I absolutely think, this is the way, a cultural event where the "event currency" is btc-lightning. It definitely shpuldnt be labeled as Bitcoin event because it would deter nocoiners.
Then have some people nocoiners can relate to casually hanging around (like Natalie Brunell or Jack Mallers) and just chat with people..
Not sure if it would be a lightning event or an enlightenment event, if you catch my drift.
That's precisely my idea for Bringing Bitcoin that I've been trying to get off the ground for 3 years! More recently, @Roger 9000 has been pushing a similar concept called Sats4Sounds
Is the issue reaching a critical mass of merchants and musicians or the organization in general?
The concept appears straight forward.
We have been working on this for a while now. A venue has been recenrly procured. Its still early in the process but @Joe Martin πΆπ β‘ let us know if you're interested and we'll be sure to reach out when it comes time to book artists.
Any other ideas/concepts please let us knoe!
Absolutely, please tell me more when you have more info
For sure! You're on the shortlist
In fact its happening, tonight. We've been doing it for years. Everything he describes and more.

Sorry, but you're not invited.
As long as the stage isn't in the EU it could work
Ah! Made me laugh and then I got sad.
Permissionless applause. No sponsors, no middlemen, just proof of work meets proof of support in real time.
That's the dream π€²
Doesn't have to be a dream. Wake up, it's real.

The future of #Value4Value live music is going to be so unbelievably rad.
(And by 'future' of course I mean artists waking tf up and following in the footsteps of folks like @Joe Martin πΆπ β‘, @Ainsley Costello, @kathryn β¨β€οΈβπ₯πΎ, @Hash Power Music, @Aaron of Essex by utilizing the tech we ALREADY HAVE)

Tune in tonight for some instant gratification. Tonight is a tech showcase.
Not our first, wont be the last.
Not only is all that you describe happening TONIGHT but interactive elements have been placed across the stage. YOUR zaps (depending on the amount) can also trigger certain effects live on stage.
@boo-bury has put on several shows like this over the years and those recorded concerts exist too. The Satellite Spotlight featured 4 different bands and multiple MCs, in a single, zap-interactive concert, all streaming from separate locations across the world.

Good timing on that note. Tune in tonight for some instant gratification.
We're doing all that and more, TONIGHT 7pm CT
