highly regarded. this is peak central planning vibes. Ignore the market then tell the market what is easier for them despite the conclusion the market already arrived at. Completely retarded.

I feel bad for all those people running small bitcoin businesses that incorporated 'sats' into their business names, who, for years, have been the real face of bitcoin as money, who will now be left explaining twice as much as they already were, lest change all their names and logos and legal filings... Bitcoin might not care, but people can. Sad day.
Not a fan; but this is not one of the hills I'm willing to die on. It feels like @npub1cash...dg5l and the whole Block ecosystem has a better shot at drawing in more normies than any other bitcoin project for the forseeable future. If @jack wants to use “₿”, then so be it. As far as I'm concerned, the sooner the rest of us get onboard, the better for everyone. I surrender. That being said, "₿ is the smallest unit of bitcoin..." doesn't make much sense if you don't tell normies how to pronounce it. Tell them that “₿” is the symbol for "sats" if that's the intent. I fear that's not the intent, though. I suspect they really want to call it "bitcoin", and couldn't bring themselves to say so in this notice - because of how patently silly it would have been to say "Bitcoin is the smallest unit of bitcoin..." That *IS* a hill I am willing to die on.
Yea it’s odd to me. Essentially the entire Bitcoin ecosystem of users, apps, exchanges, educators, businesses, etc, over the course of 17 years has adopted “sats” as the standard terminology. There are some outliers, but overwhelmingly this is true to the point that this move by cashapp is genuinely confusing and disenfranchising. There isn’t even an option to switch the display BACK to sats if you want to. It’s forced on every user of the app and that is just gross.
