Let’s stop onboarding people to custodial wallets now. Hook them up with ZEUS + ZEUS PAY, tip them 50k+ sats to start them off with an OLYMPUS channel (or open one to them yourself), and let them get into Bitcoin the right way: holding their own keys and with payment privacy.

Hoarder I need help. I’m having a serious tard brain moment. I sent a few million sats to my node but put them in the bitcoin wallet, not the lightning wallet.. and I can’t transfer from the bitcoin wallet to the lightning wallet??? Am I losing my mind? So then I bought a couple million sats on strike to send over and I can’t send to the lightning wallet from there either? How tf did I fund my lightning wallet in the past. I’m losing my shit.
I always onboard with breez and, kill me, Coinbase wallet (not the exchange). Because they're easy for noobs. Both are non-custodial. While I do have them write their 12-24 words down so they understand the concept those wallets don't necessarily require that. I know it's bad letting them rely on a Google drive backup but I do warn them. That's all I can do. Only issue I have with breez, and I suspect Zeus will suffer this, is a clear guide for noobs on what to do when their channel to the lsp is closed. Breez mentions the app will guide folk on how to claim their coin but I've seen folk delete the app thinking a reinstall would fix it which only makes things worse. Other than that I think the lsp route is the way to go for noobs and self custody. It's progressed far enough that I can't see why people still use custodial solutions. LN Addresses were the only missing piece and you have that covered now.
The key with all of these options is education and limiting exposure to being rugged. I believe that’s where the majority of the arguments are made and it’s not so black and white. But just like everything in life, there are tradeoffs. Knowledge tackles emotions IMO. My Setup - WoS / Alby = Limited balance - fun tickets for Nostr (cash in my pocket for a night out) Use case example : zapping on Nostr, buying a buddy a drink, etc Zeus = Medium balance (debit card in my wallet / spending account) Use case example : Shopping online via Lightning Store Cold Storage = Large balance (Savings Account) Use case example : storing wealth. Just my thoughts….
Agree πŸ’― Zeus Pay gives users a powerful tool to add to their tool belt. Every tool works well for some things, and not as well for others. Self-custody is crucial to learn and put into practice. So is not accidentally losing a large % of payments. If zaps are more than just a play thing and are truly to be a vehicle of economic activity for content creators, then losing 10-50% of every micropayment tip up front is really a non-starter.
