Is anyone else having a lot of trouble getting things to load on Amethyst after the recent update?

Try cutting down your number of inbox and outbox relays. Keep it under 3 (like it says in the relay settings page) and things will work much better. You currently have 10. hist.nostr.land is a bad choice too, it is for backing up your follow list, not a relay to transmit notes.
This relay thing has got me.. inkmownits critical but I really, really struggle wrapping my head around choosing which ones for what..

It's working better than ever for me, but there were some changes to the way relays work. Might require some tweaking.
The new #Amethyst makes some big changes to how the relay configuration works. There are some new sections, and a few small changes can make things run more smoothly.
πΉInbox & Outbox relays
Make sure you have 3 relays each for your inbox & outbox. Pick relays you trust.
Your outbox relays must accept notes from you, other people will find your notes here.
Your inbox relays must accept notes from others, they will send you replies, reactions, etc. here.
They can be the same relays in each list.
πΉThe Indexer, Search & DM Inbox relays have default settings. I used these, resetting them to default.
πΉBroadcast relays will send your notes to multiple relays. This makes it more likely others will see them if they do not use the outbox model. Options include
wss://sendit.nosflare.com
wss://nostr.land (for subscribers)
πΉUsing proxy relays can minimize the number of relay connections.
Good choices include:

wss://aggr.nostr.land

- Proxy & Broadcast relays.
- a few other selected relays I trust that had a large number of users and traffic.
These will connect over clearnet, rather than tor, making them faster. The downside is these relays will see your IP address.
πΉUnder the privacy settings I have it set to default, which will make any non trusted relays use Tor. Adjust this to your level of paranoia, YMMV, reader beware. Tor is slow, so the more you enable, the slower your experience may be. You are using a VPN already, right?

... i see a bewilderingly long list of options; I see 4 search relays active, I think, and 1 inbox DM relay ... and there's a long list of relays right at the bottom, but I'm not sure what that signifies.
Sorry, 2 inbox DM relays. And the long list at the bottom is "connected" relays. Is that OK?
Read the note I posted, it gives details on what to do. If you read the descriptions in the relay settings page it is pretty easy to figure out I found personally.
Yes, i got to the point of reading those descriptions but it feels a bit strange. Perhaps I should go to nostr.wine and see if they have advice on it, since I had the impression that their service was my principal "access point", I already used them for inbox as well as search, but didn't realize there were several other functions to consider. I'll try to investigate more. Thanks.

Yes, back to 0.94.3-fdroid here, due to failures of loading feeds and also bandwidth usage.
Relays settings tested: 2, 3, 4 and 10. It works great for the main list "All Follows" but all other default and custom naddr's it constantly fails or freezes fetching, even "Global".
My usage is "bare", I'm a reader. No video, URL or profile img preview, only images. Always on Performance mode. Even so, I burned through 50Gb of bandwidth in less than 10 days.
Back to 0.94.3, my usage returned to 3-5Gb per week
It loads reasonably fast for me. But I often don't see all answers to posts.
I also have the feeling (maybe it's true) that's less stuff is being posted... And that people don't see my posts...
Set your public inbox and public outbox relays.
