My running theory that the Nostr sign-in flow should feel like an IKEA effect. The user should feel like they're making conscious choices to have freedom and control online. Otherwise what's the point.

It's usually a balance to strive for. Make it too difficult and people don't sign up. Make it too easy and they get in and leave. You have to have some skin in the game so to speak to stick around. But all of that can also be for nothing if there are no strong network effects.
You should definitely be able to choose what kind of content you see, I think that would make the apps more sticky and personalized. I don't know if relay selection is necessary, would be nice to test with and without.
So far most of the feedback we have is that it's too confusing. People get hung up on keys, and not sure what they are doing once they are in the app. Some don't recommend hashtags and if you skip following people in onboarding you have a blank feed.
I had a hard time onboarding because there are so many apps and tools in the ecosystem, plus the blockchain stuff is annoying to setup if you're not into that.
I finally settled on creating an account on my phone and then just exported my nsec keys to website that I can probably trust
Whatβs the blockchain stuff? How did you know about other apps?
Like zaps and logging in via an extension. I googled nostr and tried to figure it out
Ah. We have better logins now but not fully implemented in all clients. We need way more in-client info but I canβt seem to get anyone to add it π
Would be great if nostr.com was user friendly
What should I do?
For labeling? Iβll take a look
I meant the better login
I think nsec.app is a better login implementation. You can see it in action on nostrnests.com
tried to login to nostrnests.com with nsec.app account and the spinner just sat there spinning, thats the kinda stuff I'm talking about. Like even an error would have been better.
@brugeman any ideas why that might be?
Could you please try keeping the nsec.app tab open while signing in, would it work that way? Also which OS and browser?
The IKEA effect also naturally creates micro influencers, that have the awareness and the expertise to actively teach the flow
True. And preparedness of being lost in an IKEA store is impressions of truth. Trust and verify or something
