The numbers on twitter are essentially fake. The Indian botnets combined with Twitter's bizarre "Freedom of speech but not freedom of reach" censorship algorithms means very few actual humans see any non-twitter-promoted post.

The metrics aren't the same
The community isn't the same
The value isn't the same
There's no 1:1 comparison with platform social media and I think we do ourselves a disservice by looking at legacy metrics as the most important. That doesn't mean they cant be useful in some ways, but I think we should recognize just how much noise there is in a typical network that makes a useful comparison extremely difficult.
Especially when what you get out of it, how likely your followers are to see your content, and the level of connection to the community can vary so greatly.

Follow numbers are overrated, only a small amount of the followers actually see the content on traditional social media.

Better 40 people who truly see and engage with what you create, than 4000 who just scroll past.
How to make friends on nostr? By following follow list and engaged with them?
The key isn’t strategy — it’s authenticity.
Follow people you genuinely find interesting. Reply sincerely. Show who you are.
Nostr is still small enough that listening matters. And friendship often begins right there.
