I am ashamed of myself. I disagree with Adam Back on something. He’s advocating changing the Bitcoin units from “Sats” to “Bits”, primarily because Bits makes sense as a fraction of a “Bit Coin”, but also historical references as Bit has been used to denote many units of historical currency. I hate the idea, yes hate. Here’s why: Electric car charging. If you charge your car in public you are “charged” to charge your car. You are typically charged $0.50 per 1KW/h of charge. This dual use of the same word constantly frustrates me. Also a bit is an octal unit of a Byte, where as a Sat is a decimal unit of Bitcoin. Currently we are charged 1 Sat / vByte for a transaction. If we were charged 1 Bit / vByte for a transaction, is that Bit 1/8 of a Byte or 1 / 100,000,000 of a Bitcoin? That’s my 2 Sats view on the debate. Sorry Adam, don’t hate me.

Great points. Also, to me that 'bit' is a fraction of 'bitcoin' is a strike against using 'bit'... I'm pretty sure that borrowing 'bit' from the fact that other currencies have historically used it isn't necessarily a good thing, either. I'm not opposed to coming with another term for 'sat', but this push to force a change is stupid. Just start using another term if you want. If it organically catches on, great! That's how language actually works... not by fiat.
But Sats is just an abbreviation of the first name of our diety. It makes sense, only to the ones who have been into bitcoin, when it needed a diety. Bitcoin is ready to leave the nest. Just smile through your tears and be proud. Bitcoin belongs to the world now, not just to us.

@𝕥𝕚𝕘𝕖𝕣 I dont assume it’s shit, I know it’s shit because i examined the argument and there is no logically valid justification. playing a woke/gnostic word game thinking it has any essential effect on reality is “retarded” in the most precise sense of the word for any rational adult if it was named bits and matured as bits, i would be on team bits and the sat crowd would be retarded. this entire issue is just a category error an IQ test people are taking in public
