whenever I see a spike in bitchat downloads from a particular country, I check the news and 90% of the time there's either a revolution or a natural disaster happening.

unfortunately they forget about these things very quickly; as soon as the political problem passes and the state returns to "normality" they stop using it and go back to trusting centralized services. It happened many times with bitcoin and it will happen with bitchat.
