I make chunks of the internet, and I like some stuff. Rest assured I'm not famous in any meaningful way. #nobot I don't need your money, but I love the idea of someone buying me a coffee at random: https://ko-fi.com/offby1 Pronouns: He/Him Website: https://offby1.website/ Code: https://github.com/offbyone/
I want to note, though, that even with all of this enthusiasm, the PSF is still not as funded as it would have been if they’d compromised their mission and taken the bestringed money offered by the NSF. This is good energy, to get grassroots funding to happen, but we *need* corporate sponsorships to step up commensurate with how much they gain from the Python ecosystem. Python is everywhere, and those who profit from it should do their part to support it.
I have nothing but respect and sympathy for @Python Software Foundation in their decision to withdraw from the NSF grant program in order not to compromise on their mission to keep #Python a diverse and welcoming open source community It's hard to turn down that kind of money So, here's my .02c for it, metaphorically. I'll personally make a $1000 donation to help fill in that gap. There are certainly 1500 of us who can spare that much, in the global python community. Who's with me?
In a culture that is brutal in its suppression of #SexWork, including disapproval, punishment, debanking, and every other means of devaluing the people who do it, to see #AI companies pivot to β€œhorny" is even more awful than many of their other industries. Let me get this straight: it's okay to throw billions of dollars at letting people get off to LLMs, but if a woman wants to get paid to turn men on, that's wrong somehow? Fuck everything about this timeline.
If I had a nickel for every time someone got a bug up their ass about my politely asking that they not "helpfully" answer a question I didn't ask in response to a question I _did_ ask, I'd have a surprisingly large number of nickels. One more today, too. Seriously, if someone asks a question, it's not necessary to respond by questioning their premise unless they've asked for that too. It's irritating, condescending, and makes more noise than sense.
I think the long Discourse about ATproto and ActivityPub "decentralization" yesterday crystallized the difference between the two models and why they both serve complementary and distinct needs for a true decentralized network. ActivityPub optimizes for decentralization of policy, ATproto optimizes for decentralization of ... ownership, maybe?
