The positive aspect of international news is that it also shows we’re
entering a more genuine world. We no longer need pretenses such as
claiming the existence of weapons of mass destruction to attack a country (it’s enough to state plainly that we want its oil), pretending the UN works (just ignore its rules and attack its representatives), or even democracy (the same).
We all already knew this, yet we still pretended to believe it (especially Westerners). It’s time to accept that, despite a few peace successes (mainly among ourselves), we have been living in illusion.
I choose to see this early‑year anxiety as an invitation to embrace our own truth for this new cycle.
