last tidbit: this is for a poem by edna st. vincent millay. i'm in the book in a few forms ("that pumpkin is you". okay) but this is my only appearance as a human. i'm in the center, walking him across the street. cool. full credit: the cat in the early car was also his idea. https://hell.twtr.plus/media/712796909a1c9d6d538e182806e71f4b1e59269aa666e6178025e95eb063ff72.file
there are some nursery rhymes in the book. i like this page a lot. i did the owl myself, it's "hard" illustration. then i let him do the cats, via me. these are all cats he knows in our neighborhood. i think his excitement about the process comes through, even though i drew it. https://hell.twtr.plus/media/c7d3b7029cf0fa704fcca5734fdc47566613ab8e30064553649693d4bf81dab5.file
alone, the flavor of my comics and the flavor of my illustrations didn't meld like i needed them to. but working with him, a new iteration of my style was just there. ready. these are two of my favorite examples. there's the sophisticated design and the fun drawing, together. https://hell.twtr.plus/media/3f1c17c1d95ff63da5f46f6e51b8a29615682cee99b6fb1802225a47d7e138a4.file https://hell.twtr.plus/media/64fcf3d3ca8bf42e2f401bbae10529b29477c10602fc2e9d6609c32903941d85.file
occasionally, i'd just give him the reins completely. we were just sketching so, i could always change anything later. this image, a poem from the 1800s, i just let him do "via" me 100%. "draw this" - okay. "put this cat here" - okay. "the bird is doing this" - okay, sure. https://hell.twtr.plus/media/5283f4b9103b4bdb7b0272287821dd9dc3fa49b8a9a29215e98e5a050dcbb2a0.file
but, then i got laid out - my knee got injured, and i was in bed for almost a month. but, i couldn't stop working on this. and, i was still hanging out with him. so, from my bed, we planned out about 70% of the book. usually, he'd just watch me draw and provide random ideas.
