in mythologies by barthes he notes that in america, children are a kind of ideal: they just get to play and live and not work - meanwhile in france, the child is pitied, they are seen as unable to partake of adult pleasures. that was last century. it may not be the case anymore.

i know the nostalgia-posting is cringe at times, but there used to be huge stores like this that exclusively sold educational toys for kids. aside from the death of retail it seems indicative of a change in how we view children and learning that nothing like this exists now.

when i was travelling a lot i got into lucid dreaming. eventually wondered what would happen if i went to sleep in a dream, so i did. in a dream, i found a bed, laid down, went to sleep - and woke up in my real bed. just decided not to critically analyze that one.

sometimes you can notice kids doing this if you look for it, such as in the above example. 'peter and paul' to 'peter and jamal', if there were a celebrity named jamal, then his last name might be substituted, rhymed with, and so on. i suspect many odd phrases originate this way
this naturally happens when words been to be avoided. in drug world, for example, LSD is acid, shortened to sid, so your friend might say, text me about sid vicious, then you text each other about "sex pistols", then "records". sounds stupid but is a real linguistic phenomenon:

kids naturally partake of a kind of english rhyming slang. to "blow a raspberry" comes from "to blow a fart", "to blow a tart", "to blow a raspberry tart", then finally, "to blow a raspberry". adults often retain this cultural instinct but use it for taboo / sex / drug words.
