the reason no conversation about parenting online can be normal is that parenting is a microcosm of religion, politics, ethics, social values, dating, psychology, and yourself, and absolutely no one can be “normal” while discussing all of these things at once
im pretty much “maximum theist”, i just dont find this particular angle compelling. in order to do so i would have to switch over to God being able to say anything is good or bad which is not really possible without… smashing a bunch of other things. thats just where i landed.
from where im sitting something like rightness and wrongness do “just” exist, clearly. im not sure its somehow more insane to say that they exist “out” in the universe or that they exist within the nature of an ultimate being. either way they just exist in and of themselves.
most forms of theism just take that standard and stuff it into God, and say, well its his nature or something. but we’re still in the same place where he didnt “freely” determine it. its part of him inherently, or something. so, we just drive full circle and get back to the start
but when you really dig into it, God isn’t really “making” these judgements in the way that the arguments make it sound. God couldn’t decide that hurting innocent children is actually good - in my perception of things. he’s playing by “some standard” himself, clearly (to me).
the argument that an atheistic universe would necessitate their being no “right” or “wrong”, ultimately, in the universe usually comes down to the need for an ultimate observer or someone ultimately determining that judgement in a way that is definitive, that being God obviously
probably my least popular opinion among theists is that this isnt true. there could be no God and the universe could “just have” an ethical system woven into it. “good and evil” could “just” exist. at that level of metaphysics, these “but how?” questions don’t really apply. https://hell.twtr.plus/media/132a005dc6f4c028aa4ab8195a357c2cade5cc1e23029870c7cb030e4e351a03.file
thanks man. (as an artist november 1st basically starts the “double XP bonus” section of the year) https://hell.twtr.plus/media/326247b1164ac7492f833faba7b61c3b7f782fe95d95d6302b099040e05c6552.file
one year old has spontaneously learned to ask all the W questions (who, what, where, when, why), but has no other contextual responses, so then just lists the names of all the people she knows (6 or 7). its like living with a tiny very confused detective.
was at walmart halloween afternoon and saw they had glow sticks. no idea why they’re associated with halloween but i picked up a few. later i was out with a one year old and realized its obviously so parents can see their kids. i thought it was just about the dark party energy.
