you can feel really smart telling yourself this for as many years as you want but ultimately you’re like a hunter who says “i got all the right stuff and went to the right place” but comes home empty handed complaining about the deer. other people are coming home with deer.
fascinating that "selling out" was ever a coherent concept active in music, art, everything creative. clearly a 90s thing - the 90s has been described as a mix of 80s affluence and 60s ideals. after that the idea of existing outside large companies, namely tech, just vanished.

something deeply lodged in my mind is that henry cornelius agrippa von nettesheim (born 1480s) describes wandering troubled souls (after bodily death, essentially ghosts) as “troubled and moist spirit(s)”. are ghosts wet? perpetually damp? truly horrifying to consider.
its quite nice to imagine some german aristocrat obtaining a substance he probably believed, at the time, to be the coagulated semen of the whale (im told that’s why it’s called this), and making a kind of incense from it, to go talk to a ghost. people don’t have hobbies anymore.
history of spookiness: a 1500s german text provides a formula for a substance that, if burned near graves, will call up ghosts. the recipe calls for“spermaceti”, which is taken from the semi-liquid, waxy substance found in a sperm whale's head. heres an image of it in flake form: https://hell.twtr.plus/media/d210377a00efa9685c29b6e114bfb7047adda7007e0999ba40bc3a5f37e14cca.file

i have no secret meta opinion on the concept of time out, in general aside from its practicality i find topics like interesting because they’re a microcosm for a lot of complex things.
i will never give parenting advice (guarantee). posting this comic from a book called ‘no-drama discipline’ because i never stopped thinking about it. had many interesting discussions with people about it. https://hell.twtr.plus/media/a42e14032fdf21978390e669f1913c2710b68ccfba45210c61a68a515bae316b.file
