weird encounter where an antimask guy harassed me
Just got to the hotel!
Before leaving, my sister in law told me she got sick as a dog recently, and was like "if you've got a mask, wear it. You do not want to catch this."
Makes sense! I brought my p100 respirator, figuring if it got me through defcon 31 without covid then it would get me through the fitchburg line without the flu.
I got on the train, and it was full of coughing people. Not a problem! I put on my p100, made sure it fit properly, and got back to nalbinding.
A while into the trip, a guy got up out of his seat on the other end of the train and approached me.
"what's with the purple cans?"
"oh this is a cool mask right? It's flu season and I don't want to catch anything on our way to a vacation"
"well it makes me very uncomfortable to see it."
"I'm sorry. Go sit over there and you won't see it"
"I think you're mentally fucked in the ass."
"why?"
"that thing on your face. is there some invisible contagion in the air?"
"....it's flu season."
He then sat a couples rows behind us after trying to force me to take the mask off, and then came back up to say "you are infected with the woke mind virus!!"
I asked if he was afraid of drywall guys, since they wear the same thing, and then he started to go off on me until train security told him off before turning to me and going "welcome to commuter rail! you get all kinds here"
As we got off the train, a guy sitting ahead of us apologized and said "don't let that weirdo ruin your vacation." we laughed it off, since there is really no cure for whatever causes a dude to unironically use the term "woke mind virus."
