I’m of the opinion that the majority of the tech layoffs of the last few years are not because of AI, but because the tech industry (and tech teams at other large companies) were filled with bullshit jobs that didn’t actually produce anything.
Generally, I’ve seen a ratio of roughly 2:1 of bullshit roles vs people actually producing. And I say that as someone who has been on both sides of that.
In one place (massive insurance co) the ratio was closer to 10:1.
So if Wall Street firms can no longer buy residential homes, I wonder what other scarce resource they may buy 🤔
