Hello Nostr.
Feeling like a casualty of the X doomloop I suspended my account.
As you will all know it's difficult to break your addiction to " the news" and you find yourself reaching for the phone like a smoker reaching for his tobacco. Well I managed for a week or two but still got buried by X content from contacts sharing "stuff", some of which I couldn't see without being logged in, so I relent and reopen my account before it expires.
I have done this at least twice. I wondered if some of the doom was self inflicted and assisted by the algorithm? (rhetorical question)
Missing my news ( taps pockets for smokes) I open another account. I don't interact with it other than following one person, Musky.
I realize that the statement "didn't interact" was pointless as my presence is all that is required but you have to try. Still no good.
I think it was the level of engagement farming that finally did it for me and I go to Bastyon and Mastodon for a change of scenery , both are interesting places .
I then go to Nostr help/ setup and using Iris spend time trying to learn about apps like alby and amber.
( I have tried Nostr a long time ago and know I will have given it up as too much work. 🙄)
I try various clients on my phone and desktop and have kept primal and Iris.
Primal feels familiar so gets most use.
I am really just a reader here hoping to learn a little and follow current affairs around the world, but wanted to join in by zapping people who had shared stuff I liked, so I try to set up a wallet.
Tried with Alby, hosting my own hub I needed to import a wallet I didn't have and so failed. To cut to the chase I set up a wallet on Brave. Seemed ok,backed up keys, tried to buy some Bitcoin but stopped when it appeared to be recommending Bitcoin ordinals?
The buy is stopped while I look up ordinals . Non the wiser afterwards I abandon the project again.
A few days later I have another go at buying Bitcoin. I select the amount, pay by card and up pops a screen wanting me to upload ID to be followed by a "liveness" check! Completely pissed off now, I again cancel.
I applaud and greatly admire people who work in and around this environment, giving small portions of their lives away for perhaps little or no renumeration. I want to share with friends and family but know it's a non starter.
I started this quest to join in perhaps a week before Christmas and have enjoyed and been entertained as I went along.
People I might share Nostr/Bitcoin with would not spend the time I have spent getting lost , but perhaps they would "get it"?
But... then I remember trying to get people to use session🙄
Perhaps the whole process of learning what is needed is the filter or entrants exam ? 😁
I will get there....eventually.
