I wrote previously about the first performance of Mozart's Requiem. Still, I should add that initially, only two parts of the Requiem were played, the movements that Mozart had largely completed. Those are the Introitus (Requiem aeternam) and the Kyrie, which had been finished and only required orchestration. Mozart Requiem 200th anniversary, I & II, Introitus & Kyrie This footage is from December 5th, 1991, marking 200 years since Mozart died, but it was filmed in St. Stephen's Cathedral, not in St. Michael's Church. (More details in the quoted post.) Conducted by Sir Georg Solti, with soloists Arleen AugΓ©r (soprano), Cecilia Bartoli (mezzo-soprano) , Vinson Cole (tenor) and RenΓ© Pape (bass). I'll start the day with a correction. This concert was dedicated to Afghan refugees. View quoted note β†’
I can't sleep so I present to you Mari Silje Samuelsen playing Vivaldi's Summer.
I will say my goodbye today with Pretty Yende and Benjamin Bernheim singing Verdi's La Traviata, "Libiamo ne' lieti calici", alongside the Orchestra and Chorus of the Paris Opera.
For some, this might come as a surprise. This is footage with Leonard Bernstein and JosΓ© Carreras during the recording of the movie's "West Side Story" soundtrack. The opera singer was struggling with the new (for him) rhythm of "Maria", which resulted in a few tense moments. A small piece of music history.
A memorable leap back in time with Wiener Symphoniker and Yehudi Menuhin, conducted by Herbert von Karajan, 1966. Mozart's Violin Concerto No. 5 in A major (III. Rondeau) "Turkish".
During his life, Luciano Pavarotti held quite a few charitable concerns. This footage is from a 2001 event when he sang, together with Tom Jones, "Delilah". This specific event was dedicated to raising funds for the Palestinian kids.
I assume some people have access to the Italian TV station Rai3. On Saturday, November 1st, Puccini's Tosca will broadcast live from Teatro dell'Opera di Roma.
For the "Nostr shorts" category I propose to you Hyeyoon Park playing Vivaldi's Summer.
A beautiful week can start with Bach's Toccata and Fugue in D minor, played on the accordion, from the Wiesbaden Ringkirche in Germany.
