Blood Diamond (2006) starring Leonardo DiCaprio.
The story happens during the civil war in Sierra Leone. A fisherman named Solomon finds a very big diamond but gets forced to work as a slave in a mine. He meets a diamond smuggler (DiCaprio) who wants the diamond for money. Together with a journalist, they face danger, violence, and big moral questions.
Today, the same kind of problem continues, but now with minerals like nickel, cobalt, lithium and gold for batteries and gpus chips. Mining destroys forests, poisons rivers, and hurts life.
In Indonesia, the situation is very bad. Corrupt and incompetent government has cleared huge areas of forest. This causes serious floods and landslides. Indigenous people lose their land, their whole life. Workers face abuse, low pay, dangerous conditions, and even cases of human trafficking.
The movie warned us about resource greed. Now, in 2026, we still see the same pain and destruction just with different minerals and more complex war.
