I've seen this going around again so just want to weigh in once more. A microwave oven is NOT a faraday cage. It has some of those properties and blocks some frequencies but is not in any way safe if someone truly needs to hide their device. I tested this out. I had 2 phones that had “find my phone” enabled. While looking at that app, put one phone into the microwave and shut the door. The app went dark for a moment then showed the phone as being across the road from where I was. The signal seemed to be scrambled somewhat but still leaking and the phone was clearly still in the area. Microwave doors are simply hard a plastic edge laying against another plastic edge. Every microwave is built differently with different assembly quality, price point, age and wear and tear of unit. It simply cannot be relied on to completely shield a device. This is a faraday pouch. It only works when the top edge is folded over twice and the extremely tight velcrox is fully fastened. The manufacturer of this one even says that with use, the more it is folded, over time, the less reliable the seal is. If your safety or your life is at stake, please make sure you know what you are doing. #TheMoreYouKnow #Prepping image
Some deep cold will reach southern BC too, but is forecasted for only a few days. The north has been really getting it. I hope everyone is having a safe holiday out there. #ArcticOutflowWarning #BCStorm #ExtremeCold #NorthCoastBC #GetPrepared
There is some wicked highway damage on the road from Hope to Manning Park. It's being assessed this morning but beware if you are trying to travel anywhere in southern BC. And as always, make sure you have adequate emergency supplies in your vehicle- water, food, blankets, dry clothes, a way to charge your phone, flashlight, and any other supplies that are appropriate to you, your unique situation and the area you are travelling in. Be prepared, be safe. #Get Prepared #atmosphericRiver
Some roads are slowly opening back up but the situation is quickly changing by the hour. Open roads might be temporarily closed again for avalanche control. Other areas are still on flood watch as rivers are still rising. Know before you go, check road reports often and be prepared for any eventuality. #atmosphericRiver #GetPrepared #winter
