Two Palestinian brothers, Jumaa Abu Asi, 11, and Fadi, 8, were killed by an Israeli airstrike after being labeled âsuspectsâ for crossing the occupation forces' âyellow lineâ near Bani Suheila, on the outskirts of Khan Yunis.
According to their family, the boys had ventured into the Israeli-controlled area simply to collect firewood for their wheelchair-bound father when they were targeted. Israeli forces claimed they posed an âimmediate threatâ as they approached troops, language routinely used to justify the killing of unarmed Palestinians, including children, in areas Israel has unilaterally declared off-limits.
Their deaths are not an isolated âincidentâ but part of a wider pattern of lethal violence that has continued despite the 10 October ceasefire framework. Since then, at least 354 Palestinians have been killed in Gaza by Israeli fire, according to local health authorities, even as Israel entrenches a new regime of control by carving the Strip in half with its yellow line and enforcing it with deadly force.
On the same day the brothers were killed, Israeli troops in Rafah boasted of âeliminating a terroristâ who also supposedly crossed this line, underscoring how any Palestinian movement near occupation positions can become a pretext for execution from the air.
