I had a boss drop this metaphor on me about 20yrs ago…
“Sweep the edges & the corners… the rest of the room will take care of itself.”
I think about it often. It was sage advice.
RIP: Bob Weir
Bobby & the Grateful Dead will always bring me some of my greatest memories of life & music.
I met him in the late 1990s while I was in college. I was managing a Sunglass Hut when he walked in with his band, RatDog, to buy some shades. We struck up a casual conversation, & I had no idea who he was until I took his credit card.
I told him how many incredible memories I had tied to his music. He smiled, said he was honored… and then casually offered me six floor seats & backstage passes to his show that night.
He just had me write down my name & told me to go to will-call at the venue. That evening, I showed up with a few friends, rolling the dice & hoping my name would actually be on the list.
Sure enough, it was. We ended up right next to the stage, & after the show, our names were on the list for backstage.
We stood around for about an hour, drinking Sierra Nevada Pale Ales & hanging out with the band.
What does all that say about the friendliness & humility of the man… Bobby Weir 🎶 🫡
