De La Soul. 3 Feet High & Rising
De La Soul's debut LP offered a very different take on what Hip Hop & rap might entail. It was profoundly different in feel from the hard-edged gangsta-rap around this time & still sounds fresh and cool today. It has a sort of West Coast hippy sensibility & offers a range of off-centre sounds & short tracks. In the end this route in Hip Hop proved a cut-de-sac but for a while it was the future!
