Jordan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi, Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad Al-Shaibani, and U.S. Special Envoy for Syria Thomas Barrack convened earlier today to discuss the ongoing crisis in Syria and coordinated efforts to enforce the ceasefire agreement brokered last night for the Suwayda region. During the meeting, both Safadi and Barrack reiterated their strong backing for the ceasefire and expressed support for the Syrian government’s efforts to implement it. They emphasized the shared commitment of Jordan and the United States to Syria’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, and the safety of its citizens, noting that the country’s stability is essential for broader regional peace. The three officials agreed on a series of concrete measures to help Syria carry out the agreement effectively. These include reinforcing the ceasefire, deploying Syrian security forces throughout Suwayda Governorate, releasing detainees from all sides, advancing reconciliation among local communities, fostering civil peace, and ensuring humanitarian aid reaches those in need. Safadi and Barrack also welcomed the Syrian government’s pledge to hold accountable individuals responsible for violations against civilians in Suwayda, and voiced support for initiatives to counter violence, sectarianism, incitement, and hate speech. Al-Shaibani, in turn, expressed gratitude for the constructive roles played by Jordan and the United States in facilitating the ceasefire, supporting its implementation, and promoting peace and stability across Syria. image
