When I stopped reading online news, I missed the regular reading. So I switched to Science Daily. It's the same behavior as "reading the news" but isn't awful.
"But how is learning about black holes and nano-technology and lizards relevant to my life?" I don't know, how is the doings of the rich and powerful and celebrities (of which you are not and over whom you have no influence) relevant to your life? You think maybe they care about you or know about you AT ALL?
Take yourself personally, because it's the neighborly thing to do. But life? Don't take life personally. It rolled on a long time before you, it's mostly not you, and it'll be rolling along without you soon enough.
