im not saying this as a judgement on a tradition as legitimate or “good” or not, its just interesting as it relates to the character of american religion and what america is. what he says in the video above is, another example, also found in ellen white (seventh day adventism). https://hell.twtr.plus/media/d6ddd910ca6ac73b320da00ea49d2d6e7f98800f631609761f60e2e31786bd73.file
as a comparison, heres what a book by the jehovahs witnesses says about hell. from my POV, these groups that set out from the get go to “correct things” just reached these conclusions faster. i think you’ll see more american christians get there, for the same reason but slower. https://hell.twtr.plus/media/6ef22a807673fcca0fab82f81d506f82e3b0a9e018b73119121e7a63114fcaf5.file https://hell.twtr.plus/media/df223d28b724d056012534b7ed6db5b8b7e8a03c9f75690dec27d3847514f33e.file
evangelicals (imo) are mostly perpendicular to church history. they don’t really take an active stand against it, nor are they “about it”, it’s kind of just there. it feels irrelevant. this is similar but different to american groups who actively oppose it, from their inception.
in my opinion, this is one of the conclusions that “just emerges” when you start from a position that church history is wrong, irrelevant, or made a wrong turn somewhere. if catholics were wrong about ABCDE, they can also be wrong about F. F can be many things. sometimes its hell
annihilationism is the view that Jesus came to bring eternal life - and the opposite is just what it sounds like - not having eternal life: dying. but, really dying. ceasing to exist totally. just being annihilated. without eternal life that’s what happens (i do not believe this)
many uniquely american christian groups don’t believe in eternal conscious torment (what most people mean when they say hell). kirk cameron is super evangelical. this supports my theory that american christianity tends toward these radical reformation or restorationist positions. https://hell.twtr.plus/media/664f4d3d0a92e637f79f732850faee86abf263f4a5df9574f97aa807ae90d857.file
