i think, on the ground level, even if it's technically incorrect, this fits the vibe of early psychology. here's a general psychological profile, here's the pieces of the mind, here's why people do certain things, here's the method for changing behaviors, i can do it, and so on.
the modernist world was perfect for the development of psychology, and that's largely when it happened. the mind is just another thing, and we can understand it. it will adhere to some methodology - that basically means: if we do X, Y will reliably happen. we can discover that. https://hell.twtr.plus/media/f8234588ce0d1653fceb02564d844372ba4890631f0b1ce9431a1422ab8da7d3.file
these are two entirely different modes of being. despite their immediate proximity in history, they could not be more different. in one, we're just about to totally understand everything. in the other, trying to objectively understand everything is the stupidest quest possible. https://hell.twtr.plus/media/152f7efb2aa95980acf3a6c470c834b75f750c20be27540f7a5fed25d54261c2.file
3. you have no basis for doing this. you don't have a perfect bird's eye view of this tower you're building. you're on the ground, with me. we both only have one vantage point, yours isnt "correct". we're all going to disagree on how to build it, and there's no boss to appeal to
2. you can't take yourself out of the equation. you're imagining that this completed puzzle of human knowledge will be this great objective thing that anyone can come to and consult, but it doesn't work that way. each puzzle piece was totally affected by the person who made it.
1. all these knowledge fields that you're advancing and developing aren't coming closer together, they're breaking further apart. you're imagining a world where every field of knowledge is growing into huge perfect puzzle pieces that will all fit together. that isn't happening.
postmodernism is the total opposite. postmodernism is a tool used to tear apart this tower (we've used this metaphor before). postmodernism makes a few huge strikes against this project, that are largely successful, in my opinion. these are, briefly and off the cuff: https://hell.twtr.plus/media/c74bf42f98917d6d010bd4307517c07abaf58a91008b5d875b0d01ea8dfb8143.file
the main thing about modernism is that things can be understood and, i would say, tamed. a huge river? we understand water - it's fine, we can make the biggest dam in the world if we want. if there's something we don't understand, we just don't understand it yet. we'll get there https://hell.twtr.plus/media/62120e21f51214cc22446df8ac7d15a5b0e5d5d08a7326e6161f06c458283115.file
you can imagine being a person at this time: huge advances in every field, things you never could have dreamed of - science is finally unhindered. and, in a scientific fashion, we'll just kind of "complete" every field and unlock unlimited progress forever. this is a fun time.
to oversimplify: modernism is, basically, the first half of the 1900s. modernism as a project can be likened to building a big tower. we just got rid of all the "old worldview" stuff holding us back, and with our new tools, all our fields and knowledge are going to come together
