in this way, spiritual “forms” often seem to just rise up from a people - in ways you would often not expect. an academic analysis of a small country’s folk religions might include a chapter on basket weaving, or dining: those things express these otherwise hidden views of life. https://hell.twtr.plus/media/4c42ee389de7867cf5f3060b0a06b74afff1210816cbf12b4934abafe90da401.file
the folk beliefs of a people are interesting. they “just happen”. generally, no one tells normal people to go out and develop a cohesive cosmology and understanding of life, and to embed this into various cultural forms. they just do it - generally without realizing it.
this also having an inverse process on the other end: as one gets older and gets closer to leaving the world, they attempt to un-dirty themselves, preparing to re-enter that pure state. thus old people who previously would have done “bad things” slowly develop a distaste for them https://hell.twtr.plus/media/459f9886cacdc7ba7118fb0a3d008b5c6acddc33fefc4fffae37a7c6f1f2b299.file
that wherever he was in life, no matter how dark or bizarre or twisted it was, he always had this touchstone to reach back to, when he was totally pure and undefiled - positing that everyone enters the world totally pure, and then becomes sullied by their experience in this world
it made such an impression on him that he said all of his albums have “dedicated to the butterfly” written somewhere inside them. the reason he retained this, in his view, was that at that moment, when he made that oath, he was the most pure version of himself. this guy: https://hell.twtr.plus/media/b6a055a871e5d948b54167a1e6c5ddc472cc34e23a24fa529c068310700f6e2e.file
at this funeral, they swore they would work to get to heaven, so they could meet the butterfly again and apologize - or, if butterflies don’t go to heaven, they would petition God on the butterfly’s behalf to change this. this is something he retained for his entire life. why?
this was an extremely large, epic creature to two small children, and they decided to keep it in their room, caught, for one night, and then release it. unfortunately, it died in the night. they were so distraught at this cosmic transgression that they had a funeral for it.
