above, you can see saint william, who is represented by a staff and a wolf. i like this one because the main tale is that in the region he ultimately settled in, wolves were running amok, and he subdued them with the power of God - like a beastmaster white magician, basically.

so this means the vast majority of the county is incapable of saying “to ferry a fairy” and have it be understood (as two different words). can a linguist explain this. clearly the people for whom these words are the same “lost” a sound. “we” didnt just make up an extra sound.

when someone talks about the movie ‘carrie’, (pronounced the same as carry) that is clearly not the same sound as the word as berry. i just pulled up the carrie trailer on youtube to confirm this (15 seconds in). perhaps this is secretly one of my most schizo topics.

i would write: marry a girl, like carry something merry, like berry mary, like scary but the implication is that most of you exist with some of these second words also being the same ending syllable? how is this possible. this is actually maddening to contemplate.

this has completely shattered my conception of language in some way.
