“Software is a liability, not an asset.”
Somehow this statement from Cory Doctorow’s talk on Day 1 stuck with me.
On the one hand, it’s very close to my engineer’s heart: every line of code you don’t write - or can delete - is a relief. On the other hand, it shifts the spotlight to the real asset: the people behind the code (whether in Open Source or commercial software).
