Today 4th January is World Braille Day Braille is often thought of as being outdated & not used because there's technology instead, however, I personally know people who still use it. They use tech, but there's cases where braille gives autonomy & confidence faster & easier than with tech. Last year Spain made it mandatory for accessible labels on products, braille and/or QR codes, especially on products where it's needed for safety, integrity & quality of life.

Oh my! The scam wave has changed to trying to entice people to click on links by offering a monetary scheme for making posts, they just need to verify your account to set it up. You probably already know the fedi does not have money for this type of thing, but just in case: Always check what sort of account you are dealing with, and what they are offering before you click on any links. There is no monetary scheme for posting on the fediverse. And if something looks too good to be true, it usually is a scam.

A tip to minimise the impact of spam & scam accounts for Mastodon users: Log in to your Mastodon account from a browser, go to notifications, hit the up/down arrows top right & go through the filter settings & save changes. Key points to consider using filter or ignore on: new accounts - most scam accounts are new - it will limit new users interacting with you, prioritise as *you* see fit Unsolicited private mentions Moderated accounts Do what works for you, your account, preferences & with your server. Looks like the "Verify your fedi account" scam is gaining pace, & evolving to look more real. Your server admin will not ask you to click a link to verify your account. And no other admin from any other server will either, even if they do look like they could be part of the main Mastodon team. It's a scam. Please report any post or DM that urges you to click any link to verify your account.
