I think it is more a thing to do for fun. And why not, it's nice to have those tools. But in my opinion, as far as I know, a relay for a few users have no much sense, right? Isn't a chat group better for that purpose?

Totally for fun, for me. I could make a cat post relay, a yoga relay⦠hmmmm
Prob a better question for @BITKARROT to answer though since she made the tutorial and tested the shit out of it to ensure any non-tech user can build a backend
I have had at least half a dozen non-technical people in the last year ask me for how to set up a relay they can manage at low cost and its more important than ever before. People want it, they don't seem to want to pay other people to run their relays for them.
The point is decentralization, maybe in your country you have different needs, maybe in your project you have a different purpose. The subsidies for Nostr grants won't last forever, and eventually there might not be an incentive to keep maintain infrastructure.
If we as a community don't do this on our own and are dependent on a few centralized relays (a number already gone defunct -e.g. relayable), then Nostr's decentralization fails.
And that I hope the fact that this is now super easy to deploy and minimal effort to zero cost, there is NO EXCUSE for people Not to do it.
