open source software is powerful because anyone can verify, modify, distribute, and use without permission
a robust open source ecosystem empowers all of us to take agency over our lives
fighting with people over what software they run is mostly unproductive, run what you want, thats the whole point

Open source or bust
Will we ever live in a world where 95%+ is open source? 🤔
doubt it but we are trending in the right direction
We might be already.
Silicon Valley's dirty little secret is they build everything on top of open source software.
true but i assumed he meant user facing
i am pretty sure most end users will not use freedom tools, a minority will prioritize it, and that is my focus, but would be great to be wrong
With AI/LLMs lots of software will be (re)written. Trending in the right direction. 🚀
We didn't try to censor core implementations...
I thought not everything was good for Bitcoin?
This is a political matter. Whoever persuades and perseveres wins. There is something to be won; otherwise, nobody would be fighting. Relying on people to “take agency” is a losing proposition. Authority and brand matters, that’s why most people run Core.
> this is a political matter
nope, its not protocol consensus
> most people run core
99% of people do not run any bitcoin software
protocol consensus is not the threshold for something pertaining to the shared order of the Bitcoin network/community. Debates over spam, filters, and mempool policy are by definition political.
People that don’t run bitcoin software are not network participants. Most network participants run Core.
Why are you trying to mute the debate? Sus. Awareness is key to making the decision which code to run. It’s important to know that Core is corrupted.
not trying to mute, learn to read, run what you want
Quote: “fighting with people over what software they run is mostly unproductive”. -ODELL …. Sus. Debate is healthy.
there was a bit of debate early on
now its mostly cancel culture mob behavior and appeals to emotion
like you responding to my objective post by calling into question my character
Debate is always healthy. The fact you think that’s not the case is sus. The fact you think that that saying “debate is always healthy” is, and I quote ODELL: “cancel culture mob behavior”, is also sus. Plus you’re overly defensive, which is thirdly sus.
im not your enemy even if you want to make me one
say whatever you want, run whatever you want, do whatever you want
Shut up jew
It’s freedom to run any software you want. FOSS was the way in the early 90s and it’s the correct way now.
I’d argue we were innovating faster with open source until all the mega corporations came in and tried to close source everything and build the walled gardens we are in now.
Open source accelerates human flourishing, just like Bitcoin does.
Developer write code faster than the government writes laws.
LFG
Tired of this debate?
Read a short breakdown below:
True! Currently using my own personal Nostr Client to reply to you now. I am also using it to hop into bitch@ conversations. lol
Really? 80% of the network running on a software that potentially could kill BTC?
The percentage of nodes running Bitcoin Knots is steadily increasing by the month. These node operators are fighting against the corruption of the bitcoin protocol.
i do not think relaxed tx relay defaults in core will kill bitcoin but i do think node operators should have more choices
How would it kill Bitcoin?
The increase on knots adoption is a clear sign that Core devs can't run over us. To be fair, I will expect more of you and other main influencers demand answers. I don't see a serious debate or at least a serious technical explanation on what they are going go perpetrate. Fee estimation? Block propagation? Oh please.
Assuming you know how to
Exactly 👏 freedom means choice, same reason Bitcoin works, no permission needed.
Yes. But it's also why BTC can be forked to infinity. It is NOT a store of value, just a currency.
I think your premise is correct, but in the real world, running software that has the very real potential to kill the p2p layer of bitcoin. i think that is worth fighting over, don't you?
i do not think relaxed tx relay defaults in core will “kill the p2p layer of bitcoin” but i do think node operators should have more choices
+1 C++2 .i .e etc. "ITz GIT/\/ exciting uP/\/here" HARDcore bass/tard🎶
Do you know you can earn daily from mining?, send me a dm
Learn to love yourself so that you can learn to love others.
Mushrooms for sats

run bitcoin knots
There wouldn't be any fighting if **_anyone_** on the Core side could explain the changes and the reasoning clearly. I've been reading the exchanges here for days and even the people I view as friends have not been able to put together an argument that sounded remotely cogent. I've directly asked for this from devs and they didn't respond, instead continuing to respond in an increasingly hateful way to other people. Is a clear explanation really that much of an ask? Why does the knots side sound **_a million times_** better thought out, if its not actually better thought out?
the argument by core maintainers is these transactions are being confirmed already by submitting them directly to large mining pools
this presumably gives those pools an advantage over small miners and means that the average node runner will not have accurate fee estimation since they do not see all transactions before they are mined
Thank you for this explanation. Been looking for a coherent answer for days lol
Not sure if that’s a good reason to get rid of the limit…
Yeah and don't use level state propaganda spreading child porn fear unto bitcoin core runners like me. That is actually anti marketing for Knots lol 🤣
So many twitter bitcoin influencers push the agenda in a weird manner.
Like Mr.Odell said - run what you want and turn off ideology.
"Yay let's all be free and loving and not care what anyone else does cos we're all free and loving and that's the whole point". Ummmm no.
"Run the software you want" is a red herring. The issue is Bitcoin developers changing / degrading the code to fundamentally change Bitcoin.
So what’s the solution? Run the software you want
No. It's run the software that doesn't destroy the value proposition of bitcoin.
That is the whole point indeed 🔥
