Voluntary agreements are morally valid only so long as they preserve the future exercise of volition. Any agreement that authorizes the permanent negation of agency, whether through death, irreversible servitude, or hereditary obligation, is void by contradiction. Such an agreement destroys the very faculty that makes assent possible. Without that faculty, the agreement cannot remain morally binding.
