sprinkler system getting winterized tomorrow
lawn finishing the season on strong note - greenest it has been since i moved in here about 5 years ago
was the price worth it ? absolutely not ! spent way too much on seed and water ( sprinklers ran 8 times a day ) not even counting my work.
but if was doing it again i would be much more efficient. for example on the last day ( before leaving for Florida ) i was able to do plant a larger area than in the entire first year of me looking after this lawn. and even in that day i was more efficient at the end of that day than at the beginning.
so if i was doing it again it would be worth it because i would be able to achieve the same result at a much lower cost both in terms of $$$ and in terms of time / effort.
that said, the lot is too large. my advice is if you're shopping for a home try to get the nicest home in the nicest area on the SMALLEST lot possible.
you don't want any area of lawn that you won't be using. takes way too much time and money to keep it healthy. water, seed, fertilizer, labor ...
i actually also buy new top soil and add every time i plant new seed but somehow that isn't the big expense. it's just the biggest load on the car hauling bags of soil from home depot. so much so every time i go to HD i buy a few bags of soil even if i don't need them and simply stack them in the garage because when you do need them you won't be able to put a dozen bags of soil in the car at the same time without wheels coming off unless you have an actual truck which i don't.
not going to get a truck either. i was able to get the best lawn in the neighborhood without it so i don't need it. nobody does to be honest. people just buy trucks because they are big and it's the easiest way to show your car is expensive is by making sure that it is big - that's the real reason people buy trucks, well and because trucks are "manly"
