As someone who primarily uses #Monero, I am slightly envious of all the #Bitcoin wallets, cold storage options, and integrations (eg. zaps) out there. And some projects (like #cashu) are doing good work for #privacy in Bitcoin. Still, those who chased fiat returns over decentralised, permissionless, digital cash ended up with neither. Monero seems unstoppable and inevitable. With every delisting, its value in fiat terms increases (ironically). Its utility as a fast, low-fee, private, self-custodied way to buy and sell actual goods and services is proven.
The story of #cashu and #fedimint is a textbook example of why user experience beats technical superiority every time. People developing around nostr really need to keep this front and center. A lot of gains have been made in this area in the past year, but nostr is still difficult to use even for technically adept people. Cashu won not because it was technically superior but because it was easier to use both for users and developers who wanted to build tools that leveraged Cashu. I see Cashu everywhere, Fedimint is basically non-existent. Cashu is a custodial way of storing BTC which exposes uses to significant risks of being deliberately rugged, having their mint hacked, or having their mint just randomly go offline one day forever. Fedimint mostly solved this by having coins locked up among multiple mints, now these bad eventualities required cooperation between multiple parties. But at this point, fedimint is looking more and more like a footnote in #Bitcoin development history.
"Cash is more than a method of payment. It is a fundamental tool for individual privacy and autonomy, and it is necessary for an open society." — Jerry Brito (The Case for Electronic Cash, 2019) #cash #privacy #autonomy #opensociety

Interesting on the choice of WoS. I take it you’re aware of the fact that they control your keys, and can see your TX metadata and just accept that tradeoff because of the lower fees? (Fair enough if so, btw. I’m interested in understanding what people actually want from wallets.) Have you looked at #cashu (@Minibits) or @ZEUS ?
I will say I love @primal for how easy it is to get started with #Nostr and a wallet for #zaps and now it have a signer its even more cool .. But I somehow keeps getting small problems with the wallet 🤔 but only for zaps on primal not connected apps 🤔🫣 So started playing around a bit and will say next after to that is @npub142gy...xrj0 with @Minibits and @npub1am3e...xrv7 signer Still haven't had problems there and your #sats are even send to you as #Ecash / #Cashu so even better #privacy 🥹 But overall love everything nostr 💜 🥜
Credit where credit is due: #CoveWallet is slick. And offers key features needed for those who actually use #Bitcoin day-to-day: * hot and cold wallet support * beautiful UI * transaction exports * shows the transaction memo inline in the listing (small, crucial detail for making sense of transactions) We need more wallet developers (especially in #Monero) that obsess over #ux like this. ColdCard + Cove + #Cashu feels like a very sweet combo (though I’ve not tried Cove with a hardware wallet yet.)

JPMorgan is reportedly evaluating crypto trading access for institutional clients, signaling continued integration between traditional finance and digital assets. A major shift could be underway. #cryptomarket #financialnews #institutionalcrypto #marketupdate #cash image
Another argument against #cashu for me used to be "ugh, it's just like reimplementing the banking system on #Bitcoin!" It's not. First, cashu offers extreme privacy guarantees. Possibly even better than #Monero. (Side note: I love Monero.) Second, it's #permissionless. Third, cashu bearer tokens can be passed as data, allowing all sorts of programmable money use cases. Banking will never be any of this.
I'm more impressed by #cashu than I expected. I used to be really turned off by the tradeoff of relying on custodial mints, but: I value the high speed, low fees, and privacy benefits. (The custodian themselves has zero visibility into your activity.) Offline-capable lightning addresses is absolutely killer. As is the ease with which you can make lightning payments from a cashu wallet like Minibits. The speed with which you can start accepting lightning payments through Nostr using npub.cash is insane. It makes a lot more sense when you think of cashu as a spending wallet. Indeed it should probably warn on larger amounts (maybe it already does.) Sure, you can get rugged and lose some pocket change. But as webs of trust grow - and surface - around mints, I don't see this being a major issue. So, we'll see how this goes. 😎 #bitcoin
I decided in 2026 I will convince merchants and people of my village to discover and accept BTC. The current plan is following: 1) Organize a Meetup #1 in our hall. First the basics, like What is money, Why is our money broken, How Bitcoin solves it, My journey, How to figure out own stacking strategy, What tools to use. 2a) Meetups would then continue just as a community hobby. 2b) Dedicated workshop with demonstration of setting up cold storage. 3) Onboarding individual merchants to lightning. 4) Assist merchants before/during/after large events like festivals. 5) The festival I already organize in July could serve as first whole BTC event. 6) Add other villages. #asknostr Do you have any tips? Have you tried something similar in your community? Am I missing something? Would you suggest any specific tools? Why not to begin straight with #Cashu ? Is it smart to set up my own node for those purposes? We are like 1000 inhabitants. image
