I have a long time acquaintance who grew up and lives in West Virginia and has lived there all his life. He’s a normal, voting Democrat but he knows a lot of Trump voters. He told me their main issues were “illegal immigration” and “trans sports”, neither of which are major happenings in WVa. But I don’t think he lied to me. Trump lied to them. A lot. Folks in WV think they don’t want Medicaid. They want jobs that pay. Trump promised them that, then stabbed them in the back with this instead.

Trump's reference to “God” in his statement is a wave to his evangelical base, some of who believe war in the Middle East will bring about the Second Coming, the ascendency of Christianity, and the Rapture. It also gives him a convenient opportunity to try and convince people he’s ordained by god with his actions, which is dangerous and disgusting.
