Elon Musk rather unexpectedly threw his support behind California’s AI bill on Monday, which would require large-scale AI models to undergo extensive safety testing before being released to the public.
He said voicing his support was a “tough call” and indeed, other key figures in both tech and politics are somewhat divided on the issue. But Dan Hendrycks, director of the Center for AI Safety — the non-profit advisory group which helped to create the bill — says to preserve innovation, we must anticipate the "potential pitfalls."
