A shocking low for the #EU: one of its top leaders stands with Israel’s foreign minister, representing a state responsible for killing 50,000 people (in 16 months), 70% women and children, with Western made weapons, while over 200,000 more may die from life destroying conditions. All this as Israeli leaders openly call for ethnic cleansing. And the analytical framework Ms Kallas uses is :"both-sides" "in a new war". This, in Jerusalem, part of which remains unlawfully occupied. And not a word about Israel's obligation to end its unlawful presence in the next 6 months as ordered by the [@cij_icj]( ) and #UNGA. Under int'l law, states (and by extention organisations of states) MUST NOT recognize as lawful, or support, unlawful endeavours, yet that is exactly what this visit does. Why is the press not raising any of this? @npub125jm...s7qc
I agree with Luigi Daniele: The Israeli leadership is promoting the idea that "Palestinians deserve elimination and are responsible for their own destruction". Voilà a genocidal ideology. Victims of past genocides have all been portrayed as undeserving of existence, their survival as an intolerable threat, and the violence against them as justified. What is utterly shocking is to see this ideology being tolerated and even supported in many Western circles and beyond. Our collective inability to stop the ongoing destruction of the Palestinians, whether due to ineffectiveness, apathy, or cowardice, is shameful - a clear revealer of how past atrocities were possible. Steven Kapos calls the global anti-genocide movement a "warm family". May this family keep growing: 1. as an antidote to the despair of living in an unjust world 2. to remind politicians that their wrongs are seen 3. for the Palestinians to know that they have not been abandoned
The UN's decision to reduce its presence in Gaza risks repeating past UN failures in Srebrenica & Rwanda. The UN must uphold its duty to do everything in its power to prevent genocide, and to end Israel's unlawful presence in the occupied Palestinian territory, as affirmed by the ICJ. If the determinations of the UN’s own principal judicial organ are not enough to compel more -not less- UN action on the ground, what are We The People’s to make of the future of the organization?
There must be an independent investigation into the responsibilities of Western corporate media in obscuring/manipulating information about Israel's apparent crimes. While the immorality of journalists exploiting footage of fallen colleagues may go unpunished, executives complicit in enabling int'l crimes must be held accountable before the courts.
Israel is intentionally destroying as many Palestinians it can—irrespective of age, gender, health, or religion—using all means available. This is a genocide in plain sight, and it is absolutely outrageous that European states continue to prioritize their economic/financial/military ties with Israel over stopping this massacre. https://bird.makeup/@muhammadshehad2/1903878976784732408
First time I quit a studio literally in search of oxygen, surprised to debate on what "the IDF says" or what "The American Jewish Committee thinks" IN IRELAND! My friends: Israel has killed 20,000 children in 16months. NO EU gvt has cut ties with Israel yet, including Ireland. This is what we must discuss. https://bird.makeup/@plalor/1903039566103318988
@Dr. Lex Takkenberg : Our book, "Palestinian Refugees in International Law", was seized from #EducationalBookshop—credit to you. I warned a deconstructed Palestinian flag, even as a metaphor, might politicize an otherwise innocuous legal book. Subtleties require intellect—often scarce.
My recent visit to Germany was scary because of this: police behaviour. This is not normal.
