The origin of the American second amendment isn't for the purpose of overthrowing the government; despite the founders understanding that it may be used for that purpose. The principle behind the second amendment is to preserve property ownership, the nation that enshrined the second amendment had to contend with indigenous tribal raids, wild animals, bandits and privateers on top of rival colonial powers in its immediate vicinity. Life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness was as simple as owning land, having a farm, mill or business on it, and working it with your family, having the means to defend it with deadly force and then passing it on to your next of kin when you expire. God loves that, they were protestants after all.
Nowadays the average American is a landless debt slave, so naturally there is an entire side of the political aisle that believes we shouldn't have guns, another misunderstanding of Americanism is individualism, individualism came from the family, not from consumerism and media, defending your family and your business is tied into this, your community is an extension of your family, your family is an extension of you.
