I find it so very confusing how even radical leftists I admire and work alongside do so blissfully and (dare I say) ignorantly refer to ChatGPT or "AI" as some kind of innocent and fun toy. None of them would dare to joke about driving a Tesla but "AI" is still very disconnected from the destruction it causes. I'd like to encourage all of us to attach a sense of shame and disgust to using "AI" as we did with driving a Tesla.
If someone has the bravery to call shit out show some solidarity, folks. People are not as tough as they seem and we all need support of our peers ... especially after daring moves.
Brian Merchants recent newsletter ("Blood In The Machine") is a delight and a very worthwhile reading about the economics of Metas and OpenAIs current state in the AI-hype-race.

The fact that "enshittification" as a term was successfully popularized in public discourse seemed like a win to me at first. To me it accurately serves as a synonym to "capitalist competition" and "market" (the driving dynamics behind the problems of platforms and digital services). It did that and simultaneously offered a new vocabulary that did not immediately alienate liberals, much like "democratizing the economy" replaced "economic planning".
