the sad reality of 2025 is that a large swath of folks have been driven to believe the only value they may have to offer to the internet is to be the product of a company. that needs to change. even folks who say they don’t want to be the product cannot fathom not being the product…
another small addition, but here is a little service that will give you both the text from an image and generate a perceptual hash (using Facebook's PDQ algorithm) of a given image. more to come, will also be adding the storage of flagged images and the matching of flagged images w/ osprey [Add image OCR and perceptual h...]( )
an unfortunate irony about this post - and even if you are the staunchest anti-ai critic out there, i think you’d agree - is that some of the most bigoted things are being said to respond to this. copy/pasting phrasing and terminology used by bigots but replacing “dna” with “bits” doesn’t make it ok RE:
what a day
No, you are not our product. Our product _is_ the code that we write and distribute for others to use. For others to take and build their communities. Making the users the product is exactly the model that never works and continues to never work. https://cocoon.hailey.at/xrpc/com.atproto.sync.getBlob?did=did:plc:oisofpd7lj26yvgiivf3lxsi&cid=bafkreiapblnypptftgu7ly2zwqdmwpsmvooufjz6y55jctpin5xzoudvxu
okay the for you feed is really fucking good
there's also more to this than just moderation. the same principles that can be used for automating moderation can be used for automating _a lot of different things_ in the atproto ecosystem. feeds, non-moderation labeling, data science, and more can all be driven with an auto-moderation engine RE:
there's some more to do here in the repo to get it where i want, but will probably write a leaflet soon on making moderation work for people that are not Bluesky PBC. hoping that this will be a good step in that direction. [GitHub - bluesky-social/osprey...]( )
a post: you don't need to talk about "the trans person" at bluesky behind the scenes. you don't need to make assumptions like "she probably hates herself". you don't need to use me in your arguments about anything that happens on this site unless its something i do. stop it pls.
maybe today will be the day all the answers pop into my brain and i fix all of our problems. probably not but maybe…
