Good morning. ☕☕☕ 6 January 2026 Morning coffee is good. The absence of coffee is bad. I don’t know what made me type that about coffee, but I think I’ll let it stand, just like that. I happen to be sipping my first cup of the morning now. A few days ago, I ordered some coffee through Sam’s Club—two different bags of Starbucks dark roast I decided to try. The problem? I wasn’t paying attention and ordered ground coffee instead of whole beans. Ohhh nooo 😱. Now I’ve got 80 ounces of pre-ground coffee to work through. I’ve been practicing my coffee snobbery for years. If this gets out, I’ll never be seriously accepted by the global coffee snob community. Let’s keep this quiet. If you don’t tell, I won’t either. C’est la vie. It’s two minutes to Charlie’s mealtime, and I’m having mischievous thoughts. Should I rise at the appointed hour and feed him? Or wait and see how long it takes him to come fetch me? I think he gets his cue from Grandfather Clock, which is chiming now. My wife swears he can tell time. More likely, he’s got a little clock in his head—like Jack Reacher—always tuned to the moment. Okay, I broke before he did. Got up and fed him before he had to remind me. I suppose that means my training is better than his. I’ll take the win. He was already stationed across the kitchen, staring expectantly, waiting for me to show. “Behind every successful person is a substantial amount of coffee.” — Stephanie Piro “Properly trained, a man can be dog’s best friend.” — Corey Ford “The trouble with the rat race is that even if you win, you’re still a rat.” — Lily Tomlin “If you think you’re too small to make a difference, try sleeping with a mosquito.” — Dalai Lama #photo #photography #photographer #photographylovers #morning #lake #landscaope #sunset #coffee #dogs image
A Goldfinch and Sparrow Walk into a Bar The goldfinch looks at the sparrow and says, “I don’t know about you, but I’m here for the tweets!” Here’s an American Goldfinch (Spinus tristis) and a Chipping Sparrow (Spizella passerina) sharing the same branch. I wouldn’t say they’re “together,” exactly—but they are perched side by side, each doing their own thing. image
Island in the Haze This is a hazy coastal view of one end of a Caribbean island—likely Roatán, though I’d need to pin down the dates to be sure. The land extends from the right side of the frame, curving gently into the sea. Buildings cluster near the shoreline, modest and scattered, with white foamy waves brushing the coast below. The scene is quiet, softened by mist and distance, where land, water, and memory meet in a muted palette. My photo gallery features over 1400 carefully selected images. While most are chosen for their visual appeal, a few stand out as novelty shots. Grassland Encounter Charlie and I spent a couple of hours outside yesterday, watching the birds and breathing in the cool air. I was hoping to spot something unusual—one of the odd species that sometimes pass through—but it was just the usual suspects for this time of year. Still, there was a quiet moment worth noting: a sparrow and a cardinal sharing a patch of ground as they foraged. The cardinal found something—a grub or insect, maybe—and the sparrow turned to look, curious about the find. Not quite companions, but neighbors in the moment.
