I love that we now have a summer version of the iconic Los Angeles skyline photo
Probably the funniest outcome of the entire debate has been watching all the MAGA diehards and Russian bots fully commit to trying to defend the position 'illegal immigrants ate my dog'. It's so absurd and so unlikely to convince anyone, but they still have to try because the only alternative is calling Trump on his bullshit, which is a cardinal sin for them.
This is the first time I've ever seen a screenshot of a post from Elon that was so unbelievably creepy and weird that I actually had to log in to Twitter and confirm it was real
I'd bet money on Havana Syndrome not being from a weapon at all. Back in the 50s MI5 discovered the Soviets had bugged the US embassy after intercepting recordings being broadcast on the open air. It took the CIA & MI5 a while to figure out how, but in the end it turned out the Soviets had invented the first (at least publicly documented) passive listening device. It was basically a condenser microphone that was externally powered by firing a microwave beam at the device from outside the building. The sound from inside the room would cause modulation of the signal, which could then be picked up and decoded by a receive outside the building. My guess is that at some point during the arms race between all the intelligence agencies trying to come up with new ways to do passive surveillance and evade countermeasures, one of them accidentally microwaved a bunch of embassy staff, causing neurological or nerve damage. Then after that, it just turned into a mass hysteria where everyone who got sick while "diplomatting" abroad claimed it was due to an attack by some unknown directed-energy weapon.
I hadn't read my emails for a few weeks and found a brand in my inbox who has spent the whole time negotiating against themselves. They assumed me not replying was because their offer was two low, and have since doubled it, despite me replying to none of their 7 emails lol
After quitting my job I had planned to just do my own thing and not work in cybersecurity anymore, but then recently I had a cybersecurity company reach out to discuss hiring me to do a role that sounds super exciting, so now I think I might just end up un-retiring after only 5 months πŸ˜†
Absolute funniest TikTok trend in history went down this weekend. Someone posted about this β€œATM glitch” they found. They went on to explained that you can deposit checks into ATMs and some of the money becomes available for withdrawal immediately, so you can write fake checks, deposit them, then withdraw the money before the check clears. They made it sound like some kind of life hack and I guess most of TikTok is too young to know what check fraud is, so they had like hundreds of people uploading videos of themselves writing and depositing fraudulent checks into their own bank accounts tied to their real identities πŸ’€
I hate when I go out drinking then the next day they schedule one of those services where a bunch of nurses come and inject vitamins directly into your veins. Like bro, you're trying way too hard to look like you have a drug problem. Feels like I'm playing competitive ranked substance abuse with a bunch of sweats.
I have so much beef with PowerShell over them choosing to use C-Style syntax, but then stray so far from the norms of other C-like languages. I'm certain that replacing all the comparison operators with their own was the work of Satan. I can code C, C++, GoLang, Python, JavaScript, PHP fairly effortlessly, but 90% of my dev time with PowerShell is just looking up some random syntax change they made for seemingly no reason.
If you ever wonder why right winger's brains are completely cooked, here's an example from the dailymail, a pretty mainstream news outlet. Story is about an elderly woman who lives in a senior living facility which had a contract where they waive rent for people who outlive their savings. The facility got bought by private equity, who didn't want to honor the contract and tried to evict her. The second story, is completely unrelated, and refers to a California housing aid program for first time buyers. The program offers zero interest loans for down payments, which are capped at a maximum of $150k. In place of interest, the borrower sells 20% of their future house price appreciation to the lender. California plans to waive the immigration status requirement for people who would otherwise meet all the qualifications for the program, opening it up to undocumented immigrants. The headline and story basically just combine two entirely unrelated articles in a not-so-subtle attempt to push great replacement theory, by making it sound like the government is evicting vulnerable elderly citizens while giving random immigrants $150k in cash so they can buy their homes. image
