Let’s be real: land defenders on the frontlines protect more forests and water with a busted pickup and a thermos than the corporate NGO circus does with a million-dollar gala. This #GivingTuesday, skip Greenpeace, skip Forest Ethics (or whatever they’re calling themselves now) and send your cash straight to the folks in Atikamekw Territory holding the line. https://www.gofundme.com/f/soutenez-le-camp-souverainete-defense-de-la-foret-a-km-134
Since 2009 I’ve been following the COP meetings — the so-called Conference of Parties — supposedly created to stop man-made #climatechange. And since 2009 (and before!) it’s been a total fucking failure. I was at the COP16 protests in Cancún back in 2010, and surprise, surprise: the people actually living through climate catastrophe were ignored while layers of security made damn sure our voices never reached the bureaucrats cosplaying saviors inside. Which brings me to this video by Sam Alcoff. Poor bastard — it’s not his fault, it’s his job. He’s been covering these COP shitshows for over a decade, watching them flop year after year. Meanwhile, the only folks the media ever amplifies are the big-green NGO execs who smile pretty while being just as complicit in the destruction they claim to fight. Anyway, do yourself a favor and watch this. The images are wild, the narration cuts deep, and what Sam captures from inside the latest COP is downright surreal. Check it out.
