not over, not back, but a secret third thing
yup exactly — that’s the biggest misconception i’m seeing from fedi folks. maybe it was a mistake to use similar terminology (“federating”) because the shape is so different RE:
i wonder if diagrams like these might help draw the distinction between ActivityPub (and how Mastodon uses it) and AT Protocol (and how it’s used by Bluesky and atproto apps)? with AP, instance = application + hosting. data gets sent between instances. with AT, data flows *from* hosting *to* apps https://morel.us-east.host.bsky.network/xrpc/com.atproto.sync.getBlob?did=did:plc:fpruhuo22xkm5o7ttr2ktxdo&cid=bafkreib5eu5qora6qjojzyw7yxklh3rywo24wi25dl6d66ewfrq6jpjbpy https://morel.us-east.host.bsky.network/xrpc/com.atproto.sync.getBlob?did=did:plc:fpruhuo22xkm5o7ttr2ktxdo&cid=bafkreihlbz7vpuxcyxvugj3kjfoaaqic56uijavzl3ddc4dvze7dgbow74

can confirm i like it even more now, i’ve been really feeling the productivity boost at last. the types barely get in the way, discriminated unions work very well, the assumption of no mutation mostly holds up in the kind of code i write. it’s not perfect but it’s been really useful and enjoyable RE: View quoted note →
hi to all old friends from twitter! i want to show you this thing: [atproto-browser.vercel.app](https://atproto-browser.vercel.app/ ). put your bluesky handle in it and explore :) this should give you some intuition about how this place works under the hood. happy to answer any questions about it! https://morel.us-east.host.bsky.network/xrpc/com.atproto.sync.getBlob?did=did:plc:fpruhuo22xkm5o7ttr2ktxdo&cid=bafkreiavsa3vcfnubqzyr7riv5atbjgai6enummdhfokpejdskdqcfld6i
