one way to solve this is to try to always have something at the intersection of useful *and* fun. but then you risk burning out through all of them, and something that’s only useful or only fun doesn’t meet the new threshold so for a while you don’t do anything until you miss something important

i don’t think of twitter alternative apps as being inherently adversarial to twitter. i feel like twitter got some things right and each app that tries a different take on this format is kind of a love letter to that idea. yeah it wasn’t perfect but it was onto something
