Oleksandr Matsyievskyi was captured while defending his country from a terrible and brutal invader.
He was forced to dig his own grave and, as a final act of brutality, was ordered to say "glory to Russia" in front of the cameras, hoping to use him as Kremlin propaganda. But he, impassive and calm, took a final drag on his cigarette, looked into the eyes of his killer, and said: Slava Ukraini (Glory to Ukraine).
He died defending his home, his family, and his country in yet another of the countless acts of war crimes committed by Russia in its war of expansion and conquest.
This video, released exactly 2 years ago, is a symbol of the Ukrainian spirit of struggle and Russian cowardice.
May the memory of Oleksandr Matsyievskyi inspire not only Ukraine to continue defending itself from brutal and cowardly aggression, but also all those who are suffering at the hands of an invader.
